In 1915, Moina Michael found herself inspired by the beauty of John McCrea's WWI poem titled "In Flanders Fields." She made it her mission to make the poppies mentioned in that poem the national symbol of loyalty and tribute to fallen veterans, and to this day, the tradition of wearing poppies in remembrance continues.
